The legend of the Snow Butterflies

Once upon a time, there was a village that had never known snow. Like every year, the dinner drew out. Laughter and glass tinkling still echoed as the children gathered to play cat perched in the village square. „Look!” said one of them suddenly, pointing a finger above their heads. As they looked up, they all stopped dead in their tracks: a cluster of light dots swirled across the sky among the stars. There was a flight of a thousand butterflies with golden wings. ”I recognize this light: it is the light of the butterflies that bring the snow,“ said one of the elders to the astonished assembly. The whole village shouted: ”Bring us the snow!”. Another voice mimicked her, then another, until the whole village called out its prayer “Bring us the snow”. Gradually the dance constellation faded on the horizon. Everyone went to bed with their heads full of dreams. Something magical was in the air. The dawn was greeted by cries of joy. White as far as the eye could see. The ground, the sky, the trees and even the roofs of the houses, as if covered with a thick icing sugar. Everyone was going to spread the good news: today was the most beautiful Christmas of all.
